There is only so much "money" in your "account" to be withdrawn. The concept is similar to having a bank account; you can withdraw funds only until a certain point, but when you are not working and no more is added, there is nothing left to draw out.

Q: "Before I went to jail, I was receiving Social Security Disability. Why do I no longer receive my benefits?

A: When a person is incarcerated, they become a ward of the state, which pays for food, board, etc. , During this time, your SSD benefits will automatically stop, and you will have to apply for benefits all over again when you are released.

Q: Do you hurt your chances of being approved for social security disability benefits, if you do not take the medication prescribed to you by your doctor?

A: You will weaken your case when applying for social security disability when you choose to not follow recommended prescription regiments. A disability examiner or judge may view your refusal to take medication as evidence that you do not need the medication because your condition does not hamper your ability to function or work. It is also almost impossible for a judge or disability examiner to understand the complete picture of your case and how your injury impacts your daily activity, if you are not taking your prescribed medication. It is vital that you follow the treatments prescribed by your doctor in order for a fair judgment to be made regarding your social security disability claim.

Q: When should you apply for social security disability?

A: A decision may be rendered on some disability cases after only a couple months, while other may take years.

Those that are 65 or older will normally be eligible for Medicare coverage if they've worked for ten years or more in a Medicare covered position. Even if you are under 65, it is possible to be eligible for Medicare coverage if you suffer from a disability. But you may want to talk to a social security lawyer about some of the complications involved in getting Medicare due to disability.

If you don't talk to a social security lawyer or advocate when your disability first presents itself, you may not know that you will have to wait 24 months for Medicare coverage. This is a two year waiting period that starts when your disability begins.
